Learn to kayak or canoe or improve your paddling skills with Georgia's top professional paddling instructors! White Water Learning Center of Georgia is a consortium of Georgia-based American Canoe Association-certified canoe and kayak instructors. We offer a variety of programs for all experience levels. Some instructors teach scheduled group classes. All are available for private individual or small group instruction.
Although our emphasis is on whitewater instruction, a number of instructors specialize in teaching recreational and touring kayaking and canoeing on open water and easy rivers. To find the instructor who can best meet your learning objectives, click on one of the program category buttons on the left and follow the links to the list of instructors in each specialty. You can also go directly to an instructor's page by clicking on the "Instructors" button.
Each instructor is an independent operator and prices and instructional formats vary. To register for scheduled classes or arrange for private instruction, contact the instructor directly. Each instructor has his own payment and cancellation policies.
Instructors listed on the White Water Learning Center of Georgia website are certified by the American Canoe Association to teach either canoeing or kayaking at skill levels ranging from introductory to advanced. The ACA requires instructors to be currently certified in First Aid and CPR at an age-appropriate level. The ACA also sets standards for curriculum and safety, including equipment, instructional venues, and class size. To be listed on the WWLC web site, instructors must agree to follow ACA guidelines and register their courses with the ACA.
All WWLC instructors are covered by liability insurance. The American Canoe Association makes liability insurance available to instructors who register their courses. Some instructors may carry general commercial liability insurance instead of ACA insurance. All insurers require participants in covered activities to sign a statement acknowledging and assuming risk and responsibility, a release of liability and an indemnification agreement. Participants must also sign a statement releasing White Water Learning Center of Georgia, L.L.C. from liability for injuries or damages in connection with the activities of participating instructors.
White Water Learning Center of Georgia's mission is to provide opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts to learn river paddling skills in a safe and structured environment with the top professional whitewater instructors in Georgia at a reasonable cost. We are dedicated to meeting the individual needs of students, promoting river safety, and increasing environmental awareness.
White Water Learning Center of Georgia was founded by Bruce Williams in 1996 to provide professional canoe and kayak training at the beginning and intermediate levels in Georgia. The company's offerings were later expanded to include swiftwater rescue, instructor certification, rentals and guided river trips. Upon his retirement from full-time instruction in December 2010, Bruce dissolved the corporation but retained the WWLC intellectual property, including the name, logo and website. Recognizing the void in paddlesports instruction that the dissolution of WWLC had created, he invited Georgia-based American Canoe Association-certified instructors to post their qualifications, class offerings and contact information on the WWLC website (www.whitewatergeorgia.com) with the aim of making the public aware of opportunities for professional paddlesports instruction in Georgia.
For information about classes or private instruction, contact the instructor directly by going to his page on the website where his phone number and email address are listed.
